The PathFinders
recognizes that chemical dependency is a family
disease, that family relationships are often
severely damaged as a patient's disease progresses,
and that the person in treatment has a greater
chance for recovery when family members and
significant others are involved in treatment.
Therefore, special emphasis is placed on the
family's involvement in the recovery process.
The PathFinders' has developed ongoing programs
specifically for family members and significant
others who have a loved one either in or who
have completed treatment in The
PathFinders'Intensive
Outpatient or
Residential
Inpatient Programs.
The PathFinders holds weekly family meetings
that are open to any family
member or significant other over 12 years of
age. The meetings consist of educational sessions
and open discussions. An intensive family weekend
seminar is held each month.
Family Program presentations are designed to
provide family members with accurate information
on the nature and dynamics of alcoholism and
other chemical dependencies. The Family Program
is designed to increase the awareness of the
effects of codependency on family members' lives
as individuals and as part of the family system.
Specific information on enabling behavior that
accompanies codependency is provided to help
facilitate understanding that a meaningful recovery
includes the entire family. Family members who
wish to attend the weekend seminar are required
to attend both Saturday and Sunday. The
patient will participate on Sunday afternoon
with their family. The PathFinders also hosts weekly Al-Anon
meetings and family members or significant others
are encouraged to attend these and other Al-Anon
meetings to begin their own process of recovery.
